Adding mulch to your plant bed provides moisture retention while naturally minimizing weed growth. Cedar and cypress mulches provide insect repellence, black/brown/red hardwood mulches provide long lasting and bright colors, and shredded mulches are adept at staying in place on sloped surfaces. These considerations, along with cost and your personal preference, all play a role in choosing the best mulch for your application.
